She is the symbol of the fixation of the entire creation. That’s why she gives moksha (liberation) as well as bhog (fulfillment of desire).Durvasa and Adi Shankaracharya was her famous devotees.
She is called Shodashi because she possesses all the sixteen supernatural powers. She is the most enchanting beauty of all the ten Mahavidyas. Her mantra consists of sixteen letters, her body glow like a rising sun. She has four hands and three eyes. She is seated on the lotus, which is placed on the body of Shiva who is lying in a peaceful posture. She has a noose, a hook, a bow and an arrow in each of her hands. Her appearance is completely somber, gentle and her heart is full of compassion. A devotee who takes her refuge achieves great divinity like the deities. Even the Vedas are incapable of describing her greatness. Being pleased with her devotee she gives more than he demands.
Now let us go into detail.According to Lalita Sahshranam,Shodashi is represented by Seed Mantra Klim also known as Kamraj Beej.
The worship mantra consists of three lines:
( Kaadi Mantra ) Vaghbhavakoot – Ka/ A/ Ee/ La/ Hreem = 5 syllables
(Haadi Mantra ) Kamaraajkoot – Ha /Sa/ Ka/ Ha / La /Hreem =6 syllables
(Saadi Mantra ) Shaktikoot -Sa /Ka/ La /Hreem = 4 syllables
Koot means peak.
The 16th syllable which is secret is Shreem. And thus it becomes 16 syllable mantra.
Sri Vidya means a Vidya that has Shreem as its essence.
In fact Shodashi or Tripursundari is the self in the three states of consciousness of man: wakefulness, dream sleep and deep sleep.
Normally, wishes and aspirations get fulfilled if either the cryptic mantra or the other mantras are chanted for 8, 00000 times (eight lakh), with full faith and devotion. The chanting of the mantras can be raised according to the requirement.
She is worshiped on Srichakra after taking proper deeksha.
